How can I use this...

I am thinking of how I can use this kind of forum to communicate with parents.  Our school district offers teachers a website via School Center, but I don't really think that it is very user-friendly and from what I can tell, limited.  So far, this seems a lot easier to use even though I am still learning how to use it.  If anyone has any input, I'd love to hear (read) it.

  1. It sounds like a good idea to me. Privacy and children who don't have computers at home are less of an issue with this idea. I think the big question is whether parents would know how to use it and whether they would. . . I really don't know the answer, but maybe some of the teachers at school could tell you.

  2. As you discovering, if you're a reader and commenter on a blog, rather than the manager or administrator, the process is
-go to a website address (blog address)
    -read the blog
-click on comments and write a comment
-click on publish and enter that crazy series of letters

Privacy can be an issue with blogs since anyone can read them. I won't use names or specific incidents.

  3. Oh, I think it would be great. A blog could cover what you will be doing that week, and if a student is absent, his or her parents can check the blog to see what they have missed and make it up. They can be shown what the kids are producing, you could make a little YouTube video of the kids singing a song or finishing a project. I would think you'd have to either just do a podcast of the audio or film them from the back unless the parents sign a release form at the beginning of the school year, though.
